It doesn’t get more Venezuelan than this! A cuatro, our national instrument, lies over our flag. The cuatro might remind of a bigger ukelele, with four strings. Our flag’s colors represent the red of the blood of our forefathers, the blue of our seas and sky, and the riches of our country in the gold. The stars (used to be seven, the government added the eighth one last year) represent the seven provinces that signed the original Declaration of Independence on July 5th, 1811 (Caracas, Cumaná, Barcelona, Barinas, Margarita, Mérida, and Trujillo) and the province of Guyana
