This is an araguaney (Tabebuia chrysantha). Thanks to the bright yellow flowers, akin to the yellow on our flag, it was declared Venezuela’s national tree on may 29th, 1948. To drive east in the summer and see the hillsides filled with these golden trees is one reason I always go to the beach in August. (The other being the ladies.)
